Terry Simpson is a physician, research scientist, foodie, author, blogger, new dad and on television a leading proponent for healthy living.

Having written books and scientific articles about weight loss, and the science behind it- Dr. Simpson has always insisted that his weight loss surgery patients not just eat less – but eat better.  “I learned that most of my patients didn’t cook- so I had to teach them to cook.”  Dr. Simpson has long been a voice in favor of locally grown foods. His flavor for local grown foods came from his backyard (in Ketchikan, Alaska) and mother's table. Terry's mom, his first teacher in the kitchen, used Alaskan Fresh fish, berries from their yard and root vegetables as a scientist in a lab. "She combined them and taught me about food balance and texture. She came up with dishes that are now, some 40 years later, considered gastronomic chic.

Dr. Simpson started his career doing molecular research and virology- with DNA engineering. “It was a great ride, and I enjoyed some great success but I found I liked people better than a Petri dish, so I went from graduate school to medical school. Then I discovered that people are their own laboratories.”

As an Alaskan Native (of Athabascan descent) he has served on boards in Alaska to promote healthier living among all Alaska Natives.  He is currently on The Alaska Native Medical Center joint operating board, as well as the primary care board of Southcentral Foundation – a primary care foundation that has provided a model of health care for the nation.  “Alaska Natives love their culture, their food, and they stay far more healthy eating their subsistence foods than when they venture to the processed foods brought to Alaska.”  Dr. Simpson is a strong advocate of utilizing primary care physicians to keep people out of the hospital.

The purpose of YourDoctorsOrders.com is to teach healthy living- and sometimes debunking popular myths about what is good and healthy and what is a fad.  Always advocating locally grown sustainable foods- Dr. Simpson has become the leading medical voice for healthy eating.  While loving the kitchen ("its my favorite lab") - he describes himself like this: “I don’t think of myself as a professional chef—I am a professional eater.”

Dr. Simpson received his undergraduate, graduate, and medical degree from The University of Chicago.
